Is anyone doing Intersteno in a few days? Do you know how we get login IDs?

Jelani, I don't think you're registered. If you want to participate, please register urgently with Georgette Sante (I've sent to you her mail in private message).

Urgently because the contest will start very soon!

Thanks.

Hm, there wasn't a 5 euro fee last year was there?

There was.
Actually, lately TypingZone promoted about 10-15 typists.. to be sponsorized by French and Belgian delegations. There was an advertisement on TZ's home page a few weeks ago. You may not have seen that. Pity.

But all the candidates pay 5 or 7 euros of participation (5 if you only do the "mother tongue" and 7 if you do the "multilingual contest").

Maybe Jeandid can do something? to sponsorize an ultimate typist.. as you are an excellent typist. But this wouldn't be fair towards people who wanted to contest free.

Otherwise, don't hesitate to pay those 5 euros... You know, Intersteno is a prestigious contest.. that enables to be ranked internationally.

Okay. While some people started out with some of the harder languages, I'm deciding to start with the easier ones to give me practice with the official clock and so on. I don't really have the patience to practice all fourteen languages five times. I probably already practiced in English, Italian, French, Dutch, and German five times anyway, although I really do need to set up the keyboard for accent marks so I'm a bit faster.

My computer died the day before I left for Austin and the Ultimate Typing Championship there (it is presently in repair), so I've been using a laptop, which I'm much slower on. However, Damz told me that I could plug my Das Keyboard into the laptop and somebody else told me I should also be able to plug the monitor in, which I was. Today was the first time I attempted to plug the monitor in and it was popping in and out so I actually lost ten seconds or so as the display went out because the monitor connection was loose. Another time, my cat jumped right in front of the keyboard wanting me to give him a snack.

DESPITE all that, I still got 775.6 cpm with 0 errors for a score of 7756 that might still win mother tongue...I probably would have been at 8000 without those problems, but oh well. I'm definitely going to prevent this kind of stuff happening when I'm typing in Czech though...

Incredible.
You're most probably the best typist in the world :)
Congrats!

Congrats. That's far above the winner from last year, so you have a great shot at winning. You're motivating me to train harder for this, but I'm not confident I could sustain such a score for 10 minutes even if I'm typing at the top of my game.

Perso, my record on 10 minutes is about 750cpm (0 mistake)... but I haven't practised for a very long time, so I wouldn't be surprised if I got less than 700 cpm for the contest (in the conditions of the contest). But yép, I'll do my best to get those 700+.

It's interesting how efficient Sean is. He perfectly masters his typing, and the most impressive is the "0 mistake" (rather pretty ;p).

Bref, good job!
Turkishs and Czechs will have du fil à retordre.

I did the eight languages I considered simplest yesterday, and seven others today. I just wanted to get this over with quickly for no rational reason. Russian was the only language I didn't touch yet because of how different it is and that keyboard would take hours to set up, or longer than that to learn if I use the ACTUAL Russian keyboard (what I did was a lot less work for not much less results in my opinion.)

I posted a Dan-like score of 73027 on the 15 of 16 languages I did do. No, not 80000...he is definitely better than I am at this, but 73000 is still good and has a very good chance of being a winning score, without Dan entering.

Obviously, the method I used (simply adapting the English keyboard to allow for accent marks) will not work for Russian because it's the Cyrillic alphabet and not Latin-derived. Ergo, I'm not going to bother typing in Russian unless I am forced to to win. I might not need to, since the highest score not posted by Dan was Recep's 71632 last year, and I have already passed that (although I do expect Recep to raise his game given how experienced he is).

Nonetheless, it would be cool to win both mother tongue and multilingual, even though I think both of those scores are beatable...

English - 7756 (0 errors)
Dutch - 6539 (2 errors)
Italian - 6267 (2 errors)
Spanish - 6212 (3 errors)
French - 5450 (3 errors)
German - 5335 (1 error)
Romanian - 4876 (3 errors)
Hungarian - 4805 (2 errors)
Portuguese - 4557 (6 errors)
Finnish - 4159 (4 errors)
Polish - 4075 (4 errors)
Slovak - 3772 (1 error)
Hungarian - 3339 (4 errors)
Czech - 2959 (12 errors) - don't know what happened here, but I corrected when typing Slovak immediately thereafter
Turkish - 2926 (6 errors)

Very well done, that's what I call not wasting time, typing 15 languages in only 2 days!

However, I would have expected 6000+ points from you in French, considering your scores in Dutch/Italian/Spanish, but I guess you didn't take the time to get used to the position of the accent marks.

Best of luck for winning the whole thing, as all you can do now is wait and hope :)

Bay Bilge (a teacher of Turkish pupils candidates) told me yesterday that his pupils would type on May 1st and 2nd. So 16 languages in two days ;p

Oh and Turkishs have they own annual Intersteno competition (in March). You can see their results here: http://www.interstenoturk.org/2010turkiye/sonuclar.asp.

Sean, you can give you some idea of how they will get. I think you definitely don't have to worry for mother tongue, but for multilingual part I cannot say.

Looks like Recep Ertaş is the only guy I have to be seriously concerned about, since he managed 71000 last year and got 73100 (just over 73024) in the practice Turkish run. Doesn't mean he'll duplicate now what he did then, but I'd tip him as the favorite unless I can get 1000 in Russian or something. Haran Kurt might have an outside chance, but I think Recep is the only guy who could beat 73000 with no Dan Chen. No idea if Milos, one of the traditional contenders, will be there since the Czechs don't seem to be sponsoring it this year.

Just did it. 714.6 cpm / 3 errors / score: 6996. (english)

For some reason, the scoreboard has me listed as living in Ithaca.
