Why do you want #1 position so much?
I'm not going to make a serious bid for #1 on the overall classification, at least for a while. Frankly, I'm kind of getting bored with the TypingZone permanent contests anyway, due to the very nature of their never changing. I'll do the masters though.

If there were 50 Sean, competitions would be more exciting :] particularly TypingZone.

Hey, Sean, a long time ago, I had added you on Facebook, I don't remember why, maybe because I'd seen you classified in a typing test on Facebook. I checked your photo, you seem to be smart, clever. It's funny.

Maybe you don't know http://urikor.net/cup/EN/user/ ?
Have a fun.
(Sorry Andrei, you won't be first ;p)

... Quand Sean passe, ses adversaires trépassent ...

Check that, Sean: http://org.intersteno.it/page.php?id_pr ... test_id=64 (Intersteno 2009 ranking list, last international contest).
This will give you an idea.. of the "international level".
Turkishs and Czechs are crazy fast.
Some amazing typists (who are Czechs) haven't done the last contest, they'll maybe do the next.
Anyway, now that you checked the classification, try again English 10 minutes without making any mistake. One mistake costs you 50 points in your total points! Do it cleverly.
You could achieve the first mundial position.

Well...
See ya.

P.S. : Andrei, work Rumanian typing!! I want you type it for Intersteno 2010.

Oh, last question: where were you? in the last few months/years? Why we didn't hear about you?

Brazilian boy known as "Kukkain" passed Jordan Woodroffe. I believe he is going to be #1 as soon as possible. He has 165 wpm in his fingers. Sean Wrona beware. :)
Congratulations, Brazilian! Go, go, go, be #1.

Objectively, which is the most difficult permanent text between "Creating.." and "Notre con.."? What do you think?

I mean, for example: I would like to get 160/165 wpm on the French text, and let's imagine an American guy with exactly my typing level.. would be more difficult to get it on the English text? Interesting question.
The fact is that we never could compare the level between two typists who speak a different mother tongue, nope? Compare Andrei and Jelani would be impossible? I mean, even a competition like Intersteno which clasifies typists on a "mother language" ranking.. can't evaluate it.

Anyway.

I would guess the English test is harder, because I'm #1 on French and #2 on English. On the other hand, Andrei would probably say the other way around for the same reason. 90% of the time when I'm attempting for records I make really stupid typos. Even on the first word, I type "Creating" as "Cerating" all the time. I also frequently type "destorying", "ksyscraper", and "hteory". When I make one typo I'm done. I am not shocked that Andrei got 163 wpm. I'm sure I could do it...I haven't yet since he did that, though. I am rather shocked that Andrei got 163 and made a typo, though. When you type that fast and you've made a typo, you've likely made a string of typos like I do. When I type "Cerating" I can't just stop myself after the e and backspace. If I start doing that stuff, I'd slow by 10-20 wpm. In other words, past a certain speed, it's hard to make one typo...you tend to mistype the entire word, which is why I think it's amazing Andrei managed to do that with a typo. I think I can beat that score, but not with a typo. He was awesome.

I didn't know about any typing contests until around 2007 when one of my high school friends on Facebook had that and it showed up on my MiniFeed, I guess. Then random people started e-mailing me because of my speeds on the Typing Speed game, including Zoran, who introduced me to several others...

Intersteno 10 minutes attempting to minimize typos? I'm going to wait on that, but will probably do it at some point.

I don't see what's funny about being smart and clever; it seems like nearly all the super-typists here are exceptionally high IQ wise (I mean four Ivy Leaguers in the final six last weekend, and Jack Aviado is clearly smart enough too...and that's not even counting Jelani and Eric.)

I've never heard of the Urikor site. I'm going to wait on that too. My TRUE obsession is entering data onto my frivolous website, and the more time I spend doing this stuff, the less time I spend doing that (and I do make some revenue from my site...)

Okay, Karen, I lied. I took the Intersteno English test really trying hard to control typos, and my number of errors went down from 66 to 18, my score went up from 5128 to 7062, and my speed went down from 842.8 to 796.2 cpm, not really THAT much of a decline.

What is a good score on this?

Well, a score of 7000 is pretty much up there!

See last year's results: http://org.intersteno.it/page.php?id_pr ... test_id=64

So with 7k you would have come in 2nd out of 1200 participants, behind Hais Petr who got 745 cpm and 5 errors for 7200 points, and right above our own Motsak (Karen Koulakian) who did 710 cpm and 3 errors for 6950 points.

Of course, you have the potential to win this contest, but you'd have to lower your mistakes even more. Ideally you want to make < 10 mistakes. Karen would say < 5, but at 800 cpm I think you're excused if you do a bit more.

Next attempt: 6 errors, 742.7 cpm, 7127

I could contend to score the highest on the English test, but definitely not the others since I have an English keyboard that is not exactly suitable to accent marks. I assume Dan won because he actually has all the accent marks memorized for each language. I only have some of them memorized...

There are two contests: multilingual and mother tongue. Not only could you have the top English score, but you could win the mother tongue contest.

As for Dan, he won multilingual by building a specific keyboard layout for each language with the help of Microsoft Layout Keyboard Creator. Of course it required quite a bit of adaptability on his part to get used to the different layouts he created.

742 cpm!! Great, amazing.

If you aim 750 0 mistake, you could reach first position in the international contest :]
The number of candidates who got 700+ is not excessive, and only the first got 7000+ points. So, if you get 7000+ points, there's no doubt you'll finish in the top3.

Dan Chen: Find the time to train your pure speed. You have to get at least 700+ cpm.

Last question: Sean, how fingers do you use? What is your typing technique? And how do you do to hold 800+ on ten minutes typing? Personally, it's enough difficult for me to hold it on one minute, so on ten minutes... :/

I don't really have a technique, or at least nothing I could explain... I've just been typing since I was three or four years old, had a DOS touch-typing program that I used excessively before I was even in grade school, first hit 100 wpm when I was 9 or 10 years old or something...

My one flaw as far as I know of with regard to correct technique is that I type l's wrong...I supposedly use the wrong finger but it works for me. But I'm not sure I could really explain my style...

Sean,
This basically means you've been typing all your life, I bet you'd favor a keybord over spoons and forks and pencils etc :)
Anyway, my first contact with a computer came when I was 14, but it wasn't MY computer, but a friend's. I had to wait until graduation, for my dad to dare buy me one  he was so old school, I mean, he kept tellin me I didn't need one as long as it wasn't included in the curriculum (although I mostly had mathematics & physics related courses, the synopsis was old fashioned and lab classes were sooo dull and useless.... ) so anyway, to cut a long story short, I didn't OWN a PC until I was fckin 18 yrs old, man :( it's gonna haunt me for the rest of my life, what if ... u know what I mean ? what if I had started typing .. why not, as an infant, or at least in primary school.
But your confessing thereupon puts my heart at rest a little bit, because I tell myself if this dude can't do more, and this dude's the real deal out there, it basically means I'm pretty close too, I'm holding my own pretty well....
Is this makin any sense to you? :D

Edit: (an hour later) WD for breaking the record again :)

Do you have a piano background too? Or is typing the only hobby that gave you your finger dexterity?
